Acoustic or electronic: which kit should you rent?

Pick an acoustic kit when the drums need to sound like real drums in the room: stage shows, band nights, church and school events, and recordings. Our Stagg kit is the higher-end of the two acoustic kits; the Chancellor is the more affordable one. On a big stage, acoustic drums are usually miked through the venue's sound system.

Pick the Alesis Turbo electronic kit when volume is a problem or you need control. It's a 7-piece kit you can play quietly on headphones in an apartment, which makes it the better choice for practice and learning. For a show it connects to a speaker or mixer, so the sound engineer sets the level.

  • An electronic kit needs something to play through. Our Stranger 40W amplifier (₹900 a day) works with electronic drum kits and pads, or connect it to a mixer and sound system.
  • An acoustic kit is loud. If you're practising at home in a flat, the electronic kit will keep the neighbours happier.

When an octopad, drum pad or cajon is enough

Not every programme needs a full kit. The M-Studio MS-P20 Pro octopad (₹1,500 a day) has 8 pads, so one player can cover drum and percussion parts. That's why light-music orchestras and devotional programmes use it.

The Ashton EDP 450 (₹900 a day) is a tabletop electronic drum pad with built-in sounds, for small stages or when there's no space for a kit. For acoustic and unplugged sets, a cajon (₹900 a day) gives a full beat from a box you sit on.

Budget for the whole setup, not just the kit

Two common one-day setups, at our day rates:

  • Electronic kit for a small venue: Alesis Turbo + Stranger 40W amplifier = ₹4,900 a day.
  • Acoustic kit with mics for a band night: Chancellor kit + GTX 6-channel mixer + mics with stands = ₹2,800 a day, if the venue has speakers.

Then add transport. You can pick up from our place in Fathullaguda, Nagole at any hour, book your own vehicle, or we book an auto, cab or mini-truck. Transport both ways is paid by the customer. A full drum kit needs a cab or mini-truck, not an auto.

When you message us, ask what comes with the kit you pick (for example the throne, sticks and pedals) so nothing is missing on the day.
