Veena, violin and flute

The Thanjavur veena (₹4,000 a day, ₹15,000 a week, ₹25,000 deposit) is for Carnatic concerts, recitals and Navaratri programmes. For photos only, the mini veena is ₹900 a day.

A violin is ₹500 a day or ₹2,000 a week, and a bansuri flute ₹150 a day.

Mridangam, ghatam and kanjira

The mridangam (₹1,200 a day, ₹5,000 a week) is the main percussion instrument of Carnatic music. The clay ghatam (₹600 a day) and the kanjira, a small frame drum (₹300 a day), often join it in a concert.

Tanpura and shruti box for the pitch

The tanpura (₹1,200 a day) gives the steady drone behind a vocal or instrumental performance. A wooden shruti box (₹400 a day) or the Radel digital shruti box (₹900 a day), which plays in any pitch, does the same job for riyaz and lessons.

Renting for practice or an arangetram

For practice at home, the weekly and 15-day rates cost far less per day: the mridangam is ₹9,000 for 15 days instead of ₹18,000 at the day rate. For a month or longer, ask us for a quote.

Ask your guru which instrument suits you before you book.

What a small concert adds up to

Veena + mridangam + violin + tanpura = ₹6,900 a day at our day rates. Add transport both ways.
