Housewarming and home pooja items you can rent in Hyderabad

For a housewarming (gruha pravesam) homam or a home vratham in Hyderabad, you can rent a homam kundi (₹500–999 a day), a guru peetam (₹1,500), a vratham peetam (₹500), artificial flowers, garlands and backdrop cloths (₹1,500–2,500) and microphones (from ₹400). Book 2–3 days ahead.

A housewarming homam or a Satyanarayana vratham needs a few large items that are used for one morning and then stored for years. Those are the ones worth renting. The consumables your purohit lists (samagri, ghee, flowers, fruit and so on) are still bought fresh.

For the homam: homam kundi and guru peetam

The homam kundi (havan kund) comes in a small and a big size, ₹500–999 a day with a ₹2,000 deposit. Ask your purohit which size suits the homam and the space; a flat's living room and an open terrace need different sizes.

The guru peetam (₹1,500 a day) is a ceremonial seat for poojas and homams, and for honouring gurus and elders.

For a vratham: the vratham peetam

The vratham peetam (₹500 a day, ₹2,000 deposit) is used for Satyanarayana vratham, Varalakshmi vratham and other home poojas. Many families do a Satyanarayana vratham soon after moving in, so it's often booked together with the homam items.

Decoration and sound

Artificial flowers, garlands and background cloths (₹1,500–2,500 a day) decorate the pooja room, the entrance or a photo backdrop, and they don't wilt before the guests arrive. Fresh flowers for the pooja itself are still bought on the day.

If guests will be spread across rooms or on a terrace, a mic helps everyone hear the mantras and the vratham katha. Mics with stands or collar mics are ₹400 a day. For sound without a power point nearby, the trolley sound box has a built-in amplifier and 3–4 hours of battery backup (₹900 a day).

Planning an evening bhajan as well? The bhajan setup package (₹2,000 a day) has the tabla, dholak, ghungroo, manjira, shakers, khanjari and jhikas in one booking.
